ANN ARBOR -- Jim Harbaugh was hopeful that he would get Rashan Gary back for the first of Michigan's three-game gauntlet.
Now the former all-Big Ten defensive end's status for one of the biggest weeks of the season is unclear.
Gary sat out the Wolverines' 38-13 win over Wisconsin on Saturday, the second straight game he's been sidelined by an ongoing joint injury in his shoulder.
Asked after the game if Gary would be available next week against Michigan State (noon, FOX), Harbaugh replied: "I don't know."
Harbaugh said he chose to hold Gary out last week in the win over Maryland and claimed his injury was "not a long-term thing.
