QB Kelly Bryant leaving Clemson, with nod to NCAA's new redshirt rule

College football coaches wanted more roster flexibility, and the NCAA obliged.

But it also has put some power in the players' hands, too, as Clemson QB Kelly Bryant is the latest to pick up and leave after losing his starting job.

The new NCAA rule states a player may appear in up to four games without losing the ability to redshirt. Bryant has been Clemson's starting QB all season, but that job is Trevor Lawrence's now after the offense stalled under the senior Saturday.

So Bryant has exercised his new option.

"I feel like it's what's best for me and my future," Bryant said in an exclusive interview with The Greenville News.
