ONSTED –Despite checking in at 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds, Austin Davis spent the majority of his freshman season on the Onsted junior varsity basketball team.
It's not that he didn't have the skillset to make an impact at the varsity level, but the goal was to develop a dominant mindset.
"I didn't want him to be the third or fourth option," Onsted coach Brad Maska said. "I wanted him to be the stud."
Mission accomplished.
Davis, now a 6-foot-10, 230-pound center and Michigan signee, went on to shatter program records and was named the Class B Player of the Year for a second straight season on the Associated Press All-State team.
