Ohio State places Urban Meyer on paid administrative leave

Ohio State has placed head football coach Urban Meyer on paid administrative leave.

In a statement issued by the school early Wednesday evening, OSU says it's conducting an investigation into a bombshell report Wednesday by college football reporter Brett McMurphy.

McMurphy reports that Meyer, entering his seventh season at Ohio State, may have had knowledge of a 2015 domestic violence incident involving his former assistant coach Zach Smith and Smith's ex-wife, Courtney Smith.

"During the inquiry, Urban Meyer will be on paid administrative leave," the statement reads.

Ohio State has named co-offensive coordinator Ryan Day as interim head coach during the investigation.
