The 1994 Hail Mary game, won 27-26 by Colorado on a 64-yard pass from Kordell Stewart to Michael Westbrook, is a sore subject at Michigan.
For Wheatley especially, as he watched from the U-M sideline as the star running back.
“I thought we had the game won, and to have a Detroit native (Westbrook) come in the freaking building and steal one from us and go back to Colorado wasn’t a great feel,” said Wheatley, now U-M’s running backs coach. “Certain things you kind of carry with you and it sticks with you.
