De'Veon Smith has started Michigan's first four games and has two 100-yard rushing performances. But it's unclear whether the running back will even play Saturday at Maryland, let alone start.
U-M coach Jim Harbaugh declined to give an update at his news conference today.
"He's going to be sore and working through that soreness," Harbaugh said.
Asked whether Smith’s status was questionable for the game, Harbaugh said he is not required to say that – one of the benefits of leaving the NFL to return to college coaching.
Smith left Saturday's 31-0 win over BYU in the second half with what U-M spokesmen said was a right ankle injury.
