New UM assistant Billy Donlon embracing future

When Billy Donlon was fired as head coach at Wright State in March — after the team had just finished a third 20-plus-win season and third appearance in the Horizon League championship game, all in four years — he could've been jaded.

Heck, many of his peers around college basketball certainly were, calling the dismissal "ridiculous" (Xavier coach Chris Mack) to "awful" (ESPN's Dan Dakich).

And many more things were said privately, unfit for print.

Donlon, though, he still was steaming over the loss to Green Bay in the Horizon League final at Joe Louis Arena a few days earlier.
