ANN ARBOR – For the first time since the 1984-85 season, Michigan’s hockey team will have a new head coach behind the bench.
Mel Pearson, who spent 23 years as a Wolverines assistant under legendary coach Red Berenson, takes over for his former mentor for the 2017-18 season.
Pearson, 58, was hired in April after spending the previous six seasons as the head coach at Michigan Tech.
The Wolverines began practicing Sept. 5 and open the season Oct. 6 at St. Lawrence.
Pearson shares his thoughts on a variety of topics, including returning to Michigan, early impressions, expectations and more.
