Multiple factors led to Newsome burning redshirt

It’s not often that an offensive lineman sees the field in his true freshman season, but for the second year in a row, it happened for the Wolverines. Seeing his first action against Minnesota over the weekend, Grant Newsome burned his redshirt, playing not as a backup in relief of an injured teammate, but as an extra offensive linemen in certain situations.

Even Harbaugh had said just four weeks back that it’s rare for an offensive lineman to be ready in his first year, but the young McLean, Va. native had proven enough with his play on the practice field to earn a place in the action.
