An emotional week in Minneapolis ended on a sour note Saturday night as the Gophers came up inches short of upsetting No. 15 Michigan at TCF Bank Stadium.
Minnesota got the ball inside the 1-yard line trailing 29-26 in the final minute, but couldn’t finish the drive. After a diving catch at the goal line by tight end Drew Wolitarsky, the Gophers took 17 seconds to run their next play. That left only two seconds for a final attempt.
Rather than attempt a game-tying field goal and head to overtime, interim coach Tracy Claeys opted to go for the win.
