ANN ARBOR -- Former Michigan linebacker Mike McCray won't be taking the field for the Wolverines this season, but the former captain is still making an impact with the program.
Michigan announced its 2018 team captains on Saturday, and McCray, now an inside linebacker coaching intern with the Wolverines after retiring from football last month, was one of the first to congratulate the newly appointed team leaders.
Senior running back Karan Higdon, senior safety Tyree Kinnel, junior linebacker Devin Bush and junior offensive lineman Ben Bredeson were voted captains by their teammates.
"Just last year, my best friend Mike McCray was captain," Kinnel told a group of reporters on Monday.
