Another Michigan football player has landed on a preseason watch list.
Tyrone Wheatley Jr. is among 55 players on the 2017 John Mackey Award watch list announced Tuesday.
The award is handed out annually, since 2000, to the nation's most outstanding tight end. Michigan's Jake Butt won the award in 2016.
Wheatley, a junior from Buffalo, N.Y., is expected to compete with senior Ian Bunting and redshirt freshman Sean McKeon for snaps at tight end.
As a sophomore, Wheatley played in all 13 games for Michigan, at tight end and on field goal protection. He caught two passes for 27 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown in a win over Illinois.
