Coming into the season, the floor for the Michigan Wolverines was thought to be high thanks to the talent on defense. Things aren’t necessarily looking that way at the midway point, as the Wolverines lost to Washington on Saturday night in a National Championship rematch, 27-17. Michigan is now 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play.
Wink Martindale’s defense hasn’t looked to be anywhere close to the elite unit fans were hoping for. The front seven and secondary have both looked great at times, but we’ve yet to see both groups put it all together and suffocate an opponent for four quarters like Michigan’s defenses from the last three years.
