Michigan's Quinn Hughes living up to hype, expected to be top-15 draft pick

ANN ARBOR -- Longtime Michigan coaches Red Berenson and Mel Pearson have had several highly-touted defensemen move on to successful NHL careers.

Few have had the offensive ability of freshman Quinn Hughes, said Berenson, who retired in April after 33 years as the Wolverines' head coach.

"There was no question Quinn was going to be one of those mobile, offensive-minded defensemen that are hard to find now-a-days," Berenson said, noting his staff had been recruiting Hughes since he was 14 or 15. "We have had some good offensive defensemen -- Zach Werenski was our most recent and Jacob Trouba made an impact -- but Quinn is such a mobile and puck-rushing defenseman.
