Michigan men’s tennis fell short earlier this month in its quest to win its first national title since 1957, but the Wolverines could still crown a champion on Saturday: Ondrej Styler defeated Arizona State’s Murphy Cassone, 6-1, 6-2, on Friday in Orlando, Florida, to advance to Saturday’s national final.
Styler, who was the No. 8 seed entering the singles competition, will face Georgia’s Ethan Quinn, the No. 2 seed. The U-M senior, from Czechia, is just the third Wolverine to reach the national final since the singles championship became a separate event in 1977, following Michael Leach (1982) and Dan Goldberg (1987).
