Michigan’s new look secondary without Countess

Michigan fans were surprised last week to learn veteran starting cornerback Blake Countess would not continue as a member of the Maize and Blue, announcing instead that he would play his fifth and final season elsewhere as a graduate transfer. Regardless of the reasons for the departure, it’s a loss that impacts the Wolverines’ defensive depth chart in a number of ways.

Countess was a starter each of the last two seasons after coming back from a torn ACL, even earning first-team All-Big Ten recognition in 2013.

The Depth Chart

With Wayne Lyons’ transfer from Stanford made official last week, the most likely scenario is that he takes the place of Countess as one of the two starting cornerbacks, lining up opposite junior Jourdan Lewis.
