ANN ARBOR -- What Michigan thought would be a tandem running back situation has been anything but through five games.
Entering the season, Karan Higdon and Chris Evans figured to share the bulk of the carries. The reality: Evans rushed just twice in the opener at Notre Dame, got hurt late in the SMU game two weeks later -- filling in for the injured Higdon -- and has missed the last two games.
Higdon proved he was fully recovered from whatever ailed him earlier in the season by rushing 30 times (for 115 yards) in a comeback victory over Northwestern on Saturday, becoming the first Wolverine to rush at least 30 times in a game since Fitzgerald Toussaint had 32 carries in a 63-47 win over Indiana in 2013.
