WICHITA, Kan. -- There were a lot of great individual performances on the NCAA Tournament's first day, but none better than Rob Gray's for Houston. The senior guard scored 39 points on Thursday; his teammates combined for just 28. Gray's layup with 1.1 seconds left lifted Houston over San Diego State 67-65. The Cougars will play Michigan on Saturday for a spot in the Sweet 16.
Michigan's first, second, and third priority in that matchup will be to slow Gray.
Gray went 12-for-25 against San Diego State, including 4-of-6 from deep. He made 11-of-15 foul shots. Gray averaged 19.
