The NCAA women’s basketball tournament tips off in Ann Arbor for the first time Saturday, as the Michigan women, with a program-record No. 3 seed, host No. 14 American University at 3:30 p.m. at Crisler Center. Also playing at Crisler will be the 6- and 11-seeds, BYU and Villanova, respectively, at 1 p.m.
The winners of those two games will meet Monday at Crisler for a spot in the Sweet 16. The Wolverines made the Sweet 16 last season as a 6-seed with a second-round upset of No. 3 Tennessee. Now they’re the hunted, rather than the hunters.
