Michigan wins softball regional opener 8-0 over Valparaiso

Michigan’s march to the NCAA softball title began with a statement.

The No. 2 ranked Wolverines drew possibly the weakest team in the field for their opener and made it appear that way, dominating Valparaiso, 8-0 in five innings tonight to win its regional opener at U-M’s Alumni Field.

Michigan (47-5) will face Miami (Ohio) at noon Saturday. The RedHawks won the first game on Friday, 3-2, over Notre Dame.

It didn’t take long to see the difference between the Wolverines and Crusaders.

The night belonged to U-M pitcher Megan Betsa, as she struck out the first three batters.
