Before Friday night, Michigan's Sam Piazza had been part of only one other shoot-out in his career, and that was back in junior hockey.
So the junior reached into his past when he put in the winning goal during a sudden-death shoot-out that helped the Wolverines edge rival Michigan, State, 5-4, in the last ever Duel in the D at Joe Louis Arena.
"It was a pretty cool feeling," he said.
"I did the same move that I did back (in juniors), and it worked out for me, so that was pretty exciting."
That move was a stutter step followed by a left-handed wrister, a move U-M coach Red Berenson knew Piazza had in him.
