ANN ARBOR -- A week ago Donovan Peoples-Jones caught his first career touchdown pass. On Saturday he became the first Michigan player in three years to catch three scores in a game, helping Michigan beat SMU 45-20 to improve to 2-1.
In their final nonconference game of the regular season, the Wolverines started slow. Many expected a blowout similar to last week, when Michigan jumped on Western Michigan early and rolled to a 49-3 victory. Saturday's game was scoreless until Michigan's Ben Mason ran for a touchdown eight minutes into the second quarter.
But Josh Metellus' 73-yard interception return for a touchdown as the half expired gave Michigan a 21-7 advantage heading into the locker room.
