Michigan takes pride in red-hot red zone defense

Maryland twice came as close as a team can possibly get Saturday to scoring a rare touchdown on No. 3 Michigan without actually reaching the end zone. As hard as the Wolverines’ nation-leading defense makes it for opponents to get into scoring position, things usually get even hairier once they get there.

Add red zone defense to the growing list of statistical defensive categories with Michigan’s name at the top. The Wolverines padded their lead in that department by forcing the Terps to attempt a field goal, which they missed, despite having four downs to score from inside the 1-yard line in the first half.
