The question went viral on social media — “Where’s my mom?”
That was Ben Flanagan’s immediate response after winning the 10,000-meter title at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday.
Flanagan, a fifth-year senior at Michigan, entered the final 100 meters of the race trailing Alabama’s Vincent Kiprop. But that quickly changed, as Flanagan used a late burst to push past Kiprop and win by less than a half-second.
It was Michigan's first 10,000-meter men's NCAA title since John Scherer's win in 1989.
After the close finish, TV cameras caught Flanagan with his hands over his head, his face carrying an expression of disbelief.
