Ann Arbor — It is unclear whether Michigan running back De’Veon Smith will be available for the Big Ten opener on Saturday.
Smith, who injured his right ankle late in the third quarter in a victory over BYU last Saturday, was wearing a protective boot after the game. But Smith said after the game he felt confident about being ready for the prime-time game at Maryland.
“He’s going to be sore,” Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday at his weekly news conference. “He’ll be working through that soreness.”
Harbaugh, who said after the game that X-rays were negative, was asked if Smith is listed as questionable.
