Her teammates affectionately call her “Mom” or “Grandma,” and Sara Driesenga doesn’t mind a bit.
Because just being on this Michigan softball team, and getting to her third Women’s College World Series this week, is something she wasn’t sure about a year ago.
Driesenga sits 10th on the U-M softball career victory list, but this season wasn’t promised.
A year ago, she was joining her team heading to the WCWS as a spectator. She had an early 4-0 record and a sparkling 0.78 ERA, but she sat out most of the season with a fractured rib injury.
