ANN ARBOR -- Michigan and Notre Dame hockey will be taking their rivalry outdoors.
The Wolverines and Irish will meet at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana on Jan. 5, four days after the NHL Winter Classic between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins at the stadium.
Jan. 5 will be the eighth outdoor game for Michigan hockey in the modern era, beginning with the "Cold War" against Michigan State in 2001 at Spartan Stadium.
The Wolverines then hosted MSU in "The Big Chill at the Big House" in 2010, which drew a hockey-attendance record of 104,173 fans.
