When the Michigan Wolverines took the field for their opening game two weeks ago against Fresno State, senior running back Kalel Mullings held the responsibility of returning kicks. But just one week later against Texas, a different Wolverine returned the Longhorns’ kickoffs: freshman running back Jordan Marshall.
The decision to use Marshall to return kickoffs didn’t come as a result of Mullings’ struggles — not by any means. Against the Bulldogs, Mullings had three returns for 74 yards, including a 27-yard runback. But nonetheless, when the next week came around, it was Marshall returning kicks.
“I don’t think we’re going in a different direction, I think we just wanted to get some other carries and kind of separate the load a little bit,” special teams coordinator J.
