Michigan is No. 1 in AP Poll for the first time since the 1997 season

The Michigan Wolverines are at the top of the AP Poll for the first time since the end of the 1997 season. Following Georgia’s loss to Alabama, the Wolverines moved up to the top spot after beating Iowa, 26-0, in the Big Ten Championship.

The Wolverines earned 51 first-place votes and are 40 points ahead of No. 2 Washington, which received the other 11 first-place votes after beating Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship.

Texas moved up four spots to No. 3 after defeating Oklahoma State, 49-21, in the Big 12 title game. Florida State is right behind at No.
