Michigan hockey to play Notre Dame Jan. 5 outdoors at Notre Dame Stadium

Michigan and Notre Dame hockey will face off in front of Touchdown Jesus this season.

The Wolverines and Irish will meet at Notre Dame Stadium on Jan. 5, announced Monday on Michigan Hockey’s twitter.

The game will be held four days after the NHL Winter Classic between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins, also outdoors in South Bend.

This will be the eighth outdoor game for Michigan hockey in the modern era, beginning with the “Cold War” against Michigan State in 2001 at Spartan Stadium.

The last time the Wolverines played outside was against the Spartans at Chicago’s Soldier Field on Feb.
