Michigan Hockey: Michigan Tech Series Preview

The Wolverines and Huskies last met in December in the Great Lakes Invitational championship game. Matchups outside the GLI have been scarce since these two programs quit being a part of the same conference in the mid-1980s.

That is not to say there isn’t a long, shared history. Michigan Tech’s first season of varsity hockey was in 1921. Michigan started in 1922. The teams were founding members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in the early 1950s and have played 225 times. For Michigan Tech, only Michigan State and Minnesota have a greater number of head-to-head matchups.

Michigan Tech is Division II in all other NCAA sports besides hockey.
