Minnesota likes to bill itself as the “State of Hockey,” but Michigan is giving that state a run for that title this season in college hockey.
Michigan hockey and Western Michigan nabbed No. 1 seeds in the 2022 NCAA men’s hockey tournament when the field was announced Sunday night. Michigan Tech, meanwhile, is a 3-seed, giving the state three teams in the 16-team field. (In fairness, Minnesota placed four teams in the field: Minnesota, Minnesota State, Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State.)
U-M, at 29-9-1, is the No. 1 overall seed and will be the top seed in the Allentown, Pennsylvania, region on Friday and Sunday.
