Michigan's hockey team fired 50 shots at Vermont goalie Stefanos Lekkas on Saturday, but it only beat him twice in a 5-2 season-opening loss at Yost Ice Arena.
The fourth-ranked Wolverines fell behind 2-0 in the first four minutes before forwards Will Lockwood and Nick Pastujov scored power-play goals less than a minute apart to tie the game at two at the 10:18 mark of the first period.

The Catamounts retook the lead late in the period and added two more goals in the third, despite Michigan outshooting them 23-5 in the final 20 minutes.
