The 326th edition of college hockey's most-played rivalry was over almost immediately Friday night at Yost Ice Arena.
No. 9-ranked Michigan (6-5, 4-5-0-1-0 Big Ten) netted three goals in the opening 11:34 and nine different Wolverines scored in their 9-0 shutout of Michigan State.
It was their fifth-straight victory over the Spartans (4-5-2, 3-5-1-2-0) dating back to last season and first league win since beating Penn State 3-1 on Dec. 2.
The rivals play again Saturday at MSU (4:30 p.m., Big Ten Network).
MSU yanked starting goalie Drew DeRidder (six saves) after Michigan's Johnny Beecher rifled in a wrist shot, his first goal of 2020-21, to make it a 3-0 score.
