SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Michigan football’s vaunted defense stumbled early against Notre Dame on Saturday night at Notre Dame Stadium.
The Wolverines gave up an opening drive touchdown to the Fighting Irish, and then gave up a 96-yard touchdown drive on Notre Dame’s second possession.
Michigan also suffered a significant blow when starting strong safety Josh Metellus was ejected for targeting early in the first quarter.
Metellus was whistled for the personal foul when he made contact with Notre Dame tight end Alize Mack’s head. The penalty tacked on an additional 15 yards after Mack came down with a 26-yard catch from Fighting Irish quarterback Brandon Wimbush.
