Michigan football's Don Brown seeking new tricks after exodus of experience

Sometimes it’s easy to forget Don Brown is 65.

He has an abundance of energy and a level of enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

The scheme he implemented when he first arrived in Ann Arbor as Michigan football’s defensive coordinator was a reflection of his persona — spirited, aggressive and unbending.

Brown, by golly, was determined to play man-free with a variation of Cover 2, mix up the alignments and blitz until the cows came home.

The plan worked until it didn’t.

The Wolverines finished second in scoring defense in 2016, but in the ensuing years began to fold under the pressure applied by elite offenses.
