When Aidan Hutchinson talked to former defensive line coach Greg Mattison following last season, he was under the impression that Mattison, a longtime assistant at Michigan, would either retire or renew his contract.
Hutchinson eventually found out Mattison was leaving. And then the other shoe dropped — Mattison was leaving for Ohio State.
"I found out he’s leaving, I’m like, 'Oh, okay, whatever,' " Hutchinson recalled Saturday night after Michigan's spring game. "And then he said Ohio State. That kind of makes your stomach turn a little bit."
Hutchinson says Mattison taught him "so much" last season, and he's grateful for that experience.
