Right now, four-star running back Donovan Edwards might be the most important possible commitment for the Michigan football program to get in the 2021 recruiting class.
There are some other key battles Michigan football really needs to win, such as with four-star defensive end Quentin Somerville or four-star offensive lineman Rocco Spindler. Another is in-state linebacker Jamari Buddin.
The difference is that with Spindler and Buddin, if Michigan ends up missing, U-M is in solid position with some other solid prospects. At linebacker, Junior Colson seems to be leaning towards the Wolverines and Drew Kendall, a guard ranked in the top 100 by 247 sports own rankings, is doing the same, which could help mitigate the loss of Spindler.
