Last season, Michigan football fullback Ben Mason scored six touchdowns as a goal-line brute. His propensity for intense physicality and short-yardage efficiency earned him a cult following in the fan base, along with the nickname “Bench” Mason.
But with the de-emphasis of the fullback in new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis’ “pro-spread” offense, coupled with Mason’s versatile skill set, U-M coach Jim Harbaugh has said he will be moving Mason all around the field this year, including along the defense.
