Michigan football TE Tyrone Wheatley Jr. no longer with team

Michigan tight end Tyrone Wheatley Jr. is no longer with the football team, a program spokesman confirmed to the Free Press.

Wheatley, the son of former Michigan star running back and assistant coach Tyrone Wheatley Sr., made the decision to leave the team Thursday.

Michigan players reported to Ann Arbor for fall camp earlier in the day as the team is scheduled to hold its first practice of the 2018 season Friday.

Wheatley missed most of spring practice after suffering a broken bone in his foot in March. It was the second major foot injury of Wheatley's career, as a setback cost him the entire 2015 season — his true freshman campaign.
