During his freshman season with Michigan football Anthony Carter showcased his talents in big ways. Carter was so good that he returned the first punt he ever touched for a 78-yard touchdown against Northwestern. He only started two games in 1979, He caught 17 passes for 462-yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 27.2 yards per reception. Not bad.

In his next season, Carter really poured on the wow factor. Anthony started all twelve games, putting up big numbers across the board. Carter earned first All-Big Ten and first-team All-American honors.
