Three days after Cade McNamara added several new layers to Michigan football’s quarterback competition with eye-widening comments in a postgame news conference, the challenger for that position had a chance to tell his side of the story.
Sophomore quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who didn’t throw during spring practice while rehabbing a labrum injury, spoke to the media Tuesday night for his first formal interview since the bye week last season. McCarthy chipped in 80 total yards and a touchdown in relief of McNamara during the win over Colorado State and will be the No. 1 quarterback for Saturday’s date with Hawaii.
