NCAA approves compensation for image, likeness AP, AP
Tuesday afternoon brought (somewhat) big news in the sphere of college athletics.
The NCAA's top policy-making group voted "unanimously to permit students participating in athletics the opportunity to benefit from the use of their name, image and likeness in a manner consistent with the collegiate model."
The news comes close to a month after California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill that allows for college athletes within the state to profit from their own name, image and likeness, starting in 2023. California was the first state to enact a law — and may not be the last, as there are similar bills or measures circulating in other states.
