Jalen Mayfield is moving on from Michigan football.
The redshirt sophomore offensive tackle announced Tuesday that he was declaring for the NFL draft and opting out of any potential spring season, marking an end to a career that was just in the process of blossoming.
"These last few weeks have been filled with stress and have put me in a place where I have a difficult decision to make," Mayfield wrote in a statement on Twitter. "With that being said, I have decided to enter the 2021 NFL draft. Forever go blue!"
Mayfield, who is from Grand Rapids and attended Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School, has been projected as a first-round draft pick by multiple outlets, including ESPN and Bleacher Report, off the strength of his performance in 2019.
