With fewer than 10 days remaining until the opener on Sept. 3, Michigan football announced five captains for the 2022 campaign.
Quarterback Cade McNamara, nose tackle Mazi Smith, tight end Erick All, defensive back/wide receiver Mike Sainristil and wide receiver Ronnie Bell were elected by their teammates to lead the Wolverines. Bell, who missed nearly all of last season with a torn ACL, is a captain for the second consecutive year.
The players-only vote was held Thursday afternoon at Schembechler Hall. Coaches and members of the freshman class tallied the votes in a separate location before returning to the team meeting space for coach Jim Harbaugh to announce the results.
