Blake Countess announced today that he will be transferring to use his final year of eligibility elsewhere. The fifth-year senior cornerback has been one of Michigan’s better corners since coming to Ann Arbor, but there was no guarantee he would be starting this season. The arrival of Stanford graduate transfer Wayne Lyons is likely what signaled the end for Countess’s time at Michigan.
The 5-foot-10, 185 pound Countess is coming off a subpar season, but was expected to compete for the starting corner spot opposite Jourdan Lewis in 2015. His main competition was going to be Lyons, whose style of play made him a better fit for Michigan’s defensive system than Countess.
