ANN ARBOR -- The halfway point of the season is here, and Michigan finished the first half about as well as one would hope.
Rebounding from a season opening loss at Notre Dame in which its defense uncharacteristically dug itself an early hole, the Wolverines answered with five consecutive wins.
And perhaps most impressively, they came in a variety of ways. There were the blowout wins over Western Michigan and Nebraska, games in which Michigan started fast and never let off the gas pedal. There was the slow start against Southern Methodist and the 17-0 second-quarter hole at Northwestern, the type of come-from-behind win teams look back and say the grew from.
