As it became clear that Michigan was going to be limping through this 2017 season, we came to our senses and started to understand that those lofty goals we set for the Wolverines this past offseason—like another 10-win season, maybe a shot at the Big Ten title—were hopeful beyond reason.
That fans, fanatics, should hope beyond reason is not surprising to anyone. But that of course means the ensuing letdown needs to be met with some kind of explanation. Right now, Michigan has one: Injuries at quarterback kept the Wolverines’ offense from catching stride at any meaningful point in the season.
