The Michigan football backfield used to belong to De’Veon Smith. But ever since he went down with an ankle injury against BYU, things haven’t been the same, and the Wolverines are without a premiere back.
After what I saw against Minnesota though, it looks like Drake Johnson could be the next back to step up out of the crowded bunch of running backs.
Johnson led the Wolverines with 55 yards against the Gophers on 10 carries. Smith gained only 15 yards on nine carries.
Michigan’s offense looks completely different when it’s able to run the ball.
