Michigan football assistant says it's time to reassess targeting calls

ANN ARBOR -- The position coach for the Michigan player who was ejected from Saturday's loss to Notre Dame says the NCAA needs to re-examine how it is enforcing targeting rules.

"I think the way (targeting is) being called probably needs to be looked at, as well as we've got to police, certainly, and not let our players do it," Zordich said. "But I think the way it's being called has to be looked at too."

Ten years after "targeting" entered the college football rulebook and five years after it became a penalty worthy of ejection, players, coaches, and fans remain skeptical about its application.
